How to read a lightning strike map
Start with a marker, open its details and choose which strike types to show.
What can I learn by tapping a lightning strike?
Tap an individual marker to open its available strike details. Age shows how recently it was detected; distance and direction help you locate it. Type, strength, polarity and street context add detail when available.
How do I inspect strikes inside a numbered circle?
Numbered circles group nearby strikes at the current zoom on the live map. Zoom in to separate the markers, then tap an individual strike to open its available details.
How does Ground mode make a busy map easier to read?
Open the strike-type filter and choose Ground to hide intracloud flashes. Ground-reaching strikes remain easier to inspect. Choose All to bring both types back, or Cloud to focus on intracloud activity.
How long do lightning strikes stay on the map?
Each strike stays on the live map for 60 minutes after it is detected, and you can open its details at any time in that hour. To look at part of the hour, tap Filter and move the Time since strike slider, for example to the last 10 minutes or to strikes from 30 to 45 minutes ago. To keep a strike's details for later, tap Share this strike and send or save them.
