Does Lightning Alerts work in the UK?
Yes. The live map and alerts cover England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, from the Isles of Scilly to Shetland. Recent ground-reaching and intracloud strikes appear on the map, and on a phone set to the UK, distances show in miles.
Where is the lightning right now?
Open the live map: the newest strikes are red, then orange, and pale yellow for older ones from the last hour. Tap Find and choose Closest to me: the map jumps to the nearest strike, and its details show how far away it is and how long ago it struck.
Can I see where lightning struck last night?
Yes. Tap Find, then the row under Strike history, to see the last 7 days around My Location or your saved place, with each storm and how close its closest strike came. Tap one of last night's hours to see only its strikes on the map.
Can I get alerts for home while I am away?
Yes. Save home as your saved place and turn on Lightning alerts. My Location and the saved place each get their own alert distance, from 3 to 30 miles, so an alert tells you when lightning is detected near home in Manchester while you are at work. Tap the alert to see its closest strike.
